Dr Isabel Delany

Isabel Delany is Senior Director and Head of Molecular Biology and Bacteriology at GSK in Siena, Italy, with over 25 years of experience in bacterial vaccine research. Her work spans bacterial virulence factors and gene regulation, vaccine antigen and monoclonal antibody discovery, and technology platforms for engineering vaccine components against bacterial infectious diseases. She holds a PhD in molecular microbiology from University College Cork and has held senior scientific leadership roles at the same Siena research centre through its transitions from Chiron to Novartis Vaccines and GSK Vaccines. She leads research teams, has supervised early-career scientists, and serves as Scientific Director of the GSK Vaccines Sciences Academy. Her contributions have been recognized through election as a Fellow of the European Academy of Microbiology, appointment as a GSK Fellow, and multiple innovation and R&D awards. She has authored peer-reviewed publications on meningococcal and gonococcal vaccines, OMV/GMMA technology, bacterial gene regulation, and host-pathogen interactions.
